The Future of Sales Hiring

I’ve stumbled upon a killer app for hiring sales people.

One of my clients was looking for a new sales executive and decided to use their own technology to support the hiring process.

Storyvine is an application that allows candidates to record a video on their smart phone. Which is then ‘automagically’ edited into a high quality candidate ‘movie’ and emailed to the hiring manager for review.

Sifting through resumes is absurd

The average job seeker sends out 25 resumes at a time. Most don’t even recall applying to your company when you call to discuss their resume or schedule an interview.

Even worse, it seems few job seekers actually know how to put together a readable resume.

For several years I have integrated pre-interview surveys into my hiring process as a way to separate real job seekers from the majority of people simply throwing resumes against the proverbial wall.

The Storyvine application takes this to a higher level.

HOW the application works

Storyvine basically holds the subjects hand through the entire process asking you one question at a time and even helping you frame the shot.

Once the ‘interview’ is finished, Storyvine does all the work of editing the video, uploading to the cloud, and sending a link to the hiring manager

I can tell you from personal experience that watching these videos is powerful. Usually I can tell in 30-45 seconds if I should continue watching.

Duh

A realization hit me like a brick. This is an obvious a solution to a thorny problem.

First off, why would you exert effort reviewing a resume or even reaching out to an applicant who has invested zero energy on their end (except for hitting send on their resume email.)

Second, sales is a profession that relies on relationship building and the ability to communicate effectively… neither of which are conveyed by a resume.
